The microcosm of the 2019 Mets season can be summed up just from watching the September 3rd game against the Washington Nationals. It was a must-win game for the Mets in order to gain ground in the National League Wildcard hunt. It was a Jacob deGrom vs. Max Scherzer showdown. The Mets scored 5 runs in the top of the 9th to take a 10-4 lead only to allow 7 runs in the bottom of the inning to lose 11-10. The Mets keep making up new ways to lose.
Kevin Clancy or otherwise known as KFC Barstool perfectly put a bow tie on the 2019 Mets season:
The Mets are cursed. There’s just no other way to put it. I truly feel bad for Met fans. They make up new ways to lose. This loss has to go down as one of the worst ever for this franchise. Watching Daryl Strawberry bang chicks in the clubhouse has to be more enjoyable than whatever the Mets are doing. Can’t make it up. It’s just part of being a Mets fan. This blog is a must-read by KFC. Worst moments in Mets history. I don’t think another franchise in any sport an top it.
New York has two big bright spots. Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso. That’s it. Unfortunately, that isn’t enough to break a curse like this. Even a rotation like deGrom, Syndergaard, Wheeler, Stroman, and Matz isn’t enough to break this curse. The Mets have to be perfect to end this kind of misery and they haven’t been. Robinson Cano is still on the roster and Mickey Callaway is still the manager. The Cano trade was a bad idea from the start. Callaway is just a joke of a human. Can’t win with that formula. This team doesn’t have a fighting chance unless those two things change.
