Kevin Durant Does Not Agree with His NBA 2K23 Rating

We all know Kevin Durant is one of the best basketball players in the world. He is an elite talent and is arguably the best scorer of all time. However, after a disappointing playoff run that saw the Brooklyn Nets get swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round maybe his stock has gone down. There are some people that think he is the best in the world, myself included, while a whole lot of people don’t even put him in the top three. This could be because he is a very polarizing figure as KD is one of the most interesting athletes in all of the sports due to his drive to always be himself and speak his mind.

KD’s blunt way of calling it how he sees it once again made headlines as he reacted to the new NBA 2K23 ratings. Durant was not pleased with his overall rating (96) in the new basketball game and his feelings towards the rating were on full display in one of his latest tweets.

NBA 2K is the most popular basketball video game on the market. Every new NBA 2K creates buzz among not only the gaming community but the NBA community as a whole when they release their cover athlete and their ratings. NBA 2K already released their cover athlete for NBA 2K23 and now they are stirring the pot with their new ratings.

Durant did not appreciate his 96 overall rating saying it was “laughable” and it is clear he thinks he deserves a 99 rating. NBA 2K23 has Giannis Antetokounmpo as the highest-rated player with a 97. The next closest players were LeBron James, Steph Curry, Nikola Jokić, Joel Embiid, and Kevin Durant, all with 96 ratings.

Kevin Durant’s other NBA 2K ratings

While KD was displeased with not being a 99, at least 2K does not give out that rating often. Only five players have ever received a 99 rating: LeBron James, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett are the select few that belong to the 99 club.

However, Durant may be on to something when he questioned his rating — he has never been the highest-rated player in the game. The generational talent and absolute legend that is KD has never been blessed with being the top dog in an NBA 2K game. He has been tied as the best overall and the second highest rated in more than a few 2K’s but never alone at the top. It is not all bad as the only time KD was not a 90+ overall was his rookie year and he has had a 95+ rating in eight NBA 2Ks since.

Let’s see if Kevin Durant can finally get the respect he deserves from NBA 2K with a best player-in-the-game rating and possibly even a 99 rating.
