Fields knows that the NFL is a business and understands the Bears taking a QB first overall

With many rumors going around with the Chicago Bears having the first overall pick, they may select a quarterback. Starting quarterback Justin Fields completely understands the Bears’ logistics behind the pick, knowing that the NFL is a business, according to theScore.

As most quarterbacks and other players in the league want during draft time is honesty. In the NFL, as a quarterback, any rookie can take your job at any moment. Look no further than Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers. He potentially earned the starting spot for next year over Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.

In this case, it could be Fields’ job. Heisman winning Alabama quarterback Bryce Young could be the next great quarterback to come into the NFL and the Bears might select him first overall.

During an interview, Justin Fields made comments on the Bears drafting a quarterback for the first overall pick.

“Everybody would love honesty in the process,” Fields said on “The Rich Eisen Show,” according to NFL.com’s Bobby Kownack, via theScore. “I would definitely like to know that. It’s a business, so I totally understand. No hard feelings. But like I said, I control what I can control. Control my work ethic. Control how I carry myself each and every day.”

Other than Bryce Young, some other notable quarterbacks who could be selected first overall are C.J. Stroud from Ohio State and Will Levis out of Kentucky.

The Chicago Bears drafted Fields 11th overall in the 2021 NFL draft. They traded up from the 20th pick in the draft by trading that pick, a 2022 first-round pick, 2022 fourth-round pick and a 2021 fifth-round pick.

In this past season, Fields showed huge amounts of growth. He went from nine total touchdowns in his rookie season to 25. Fields only played 12 games in his rookie season and played 15 in 2022. He had only one more interception in 2022 than he did his rookie year, too. He also added 1,000 yard rushing this season becoming one of only three quarterbacks to do so in NFL history.

“I think I’ve shown a little bit, but I don’t think I’ve shown the world what I can do in terms of playing the full quarterback position and playing it consistently,” Fields said, via theScore. “I think there were some times this year where I was better than others.”
