Julio Jones, Falcons Finalize Extension Make Him Highest Paid Wide Receiver

Julio Jones is the richest wide receiver in the NFL. After years of being underpaid on a team friendly deal, Julio finally cashes in. In 9 career seasons, Jones has $86 million in career earnings. Far less than he could have earned. Now Jones will sign an extension with the Atlanta Falcons that will make him the highest paid receiver on an annual basis.

The NFL Network team of reporters Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport had the details:

The #Falcons and star WR Julio Jones are finalizing a multi-year extension that will make him the NFL’s highest-paid receiver, per league sources. Minor issues still to work out, but should be done today.💰💰💰

$22 million per year is big boy money. Michael Thomas had the lead prior to this new extension for Jones. Thomas checks in at $19.25 million per year while Odell Beckham sits at $18 per year. Jones blew right past the market. Of course, he deserves to. Jones is probably the best receiver in football since he entered the league. Yes, he’s that good. Jones is statistically the best receiver in Falcons history already. Trading up in the 2011 NFL Draft with the Browns may go down as the best decsison in franchise hisotyr.

In 9 seasons, Jones has over 10,000 receiving yards including 51 touchdowns. Julio has been the gold standard at the position. Unlike guys like Antonio Brown, there’s no diva involved with Julio. He’s the model citizen for this franchise. Jones 100 percent earned with paycheck here. Jones didn’t care about becoming the highest paid receiver. He got his wish anyway.

Julio has a lofty goal for himself. Entering his age 30 season, Jones wants a 3,000 yard season to cap off what will be a first ballot hall of fame career. Now that would be insane. Given how bad this Falcons defense is, I’m not going to put it past him. They should be in shootouts every single week.
