Jordan Davis 2022 NFL Draft Profile

It seems like every year, the NFL Combine produces one unicorn. Someone who defies all logic and shows off immense potential with how they test. This year, that person is Jordan Davis, DT from Georgia. We will get to his combine here in a minute, but thanks to that performance, Davis is regarded as being a top-10 pick, and rightfully so. Let’s take a look at the 2022 NFL Draft Profile of Jordan Davis.

Right off the bat, Davis is 6’6 and 341 lbs. Remember those numbers when I tell you he ran a 4.78 40-yard dash at the combine. A man who is taller than Gronk and weighs more than Jason Peters ran a faster 40 time than Patrick Mahomes. Nuts. His 40 time was nearly identical to Aiden Hutchinson as well. He had a vertical of 32 inches as well which only goes to prove how explosive he is.

The massive appeal for this mountain of a man is his run defense. He is the elite run stopper in this draft class. Will take on two blocks willingly, and even while double-teamed find a way to make a play. Davis has great hand placement and can be violent at the point of attack. A man of his size not only will hardly ever be blocked by one lineman but if he is he has the size to win most battles. Davis has the potential to be nearly elite as soon as he steps onto the NFL field.

There are some downsides, as is with any prospect. With being 6’6, he plays upright more than you would want, meaning he loses leverage at times. His first step isn’t as fast as you would want, but you aren’t drafting him to be Aaron Donald. Change of direction really isn’t on the table either, so once Davis gets doing that’s where he will end up. 7 sacks in 4 years isn’t awesome either, but again that isn’t why you’re drafting him. If he can develop some moves to get to the QB, he can wreck a team’s game plan.

Our writer pegged Jordan Davis as a first-round talent months ago, and that talent is finally coming to light. I think Davis has more than established himself not only as a first-round guy but as a top-10 pick. I think Davis will be drafted by a team moving up, there are teams that have a glaring need at DT or stopping the run.

Best fits: Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers (three of the worst run defense teams last season)
