Is 2022 the year of Brandon Aiyuk? Some on our team believe that’s going to be the case. 49ers general manager John Lynch also believes that’s going to be the case. If you ask Lynch for a breakout candidate on his team, it’s Aiyuk.
“You talk about a kid who has made a giant leap and some guys you hope that this is his year,” Lynch said, via NBCSportsBayArea.com. “I know it’s going to be Brandon’s year because of the work he’s put in and because, you know, when a guy is just doing it every day, that translates to the field, and it translates to game time.”
Most of you may or may not know my thoughts on Brandon Aiyuk so I’ll summarize them quickly. I thought Aiyuk was essentially the same thing as N’Keal Harry coming out of college. Aiyuk maybe with a bit more upside because of his freakish length but other than that we weren’t looking at anything special. I strongly disagreed with the idea of him going in the first round.
Thus far I have been proven right. It was disrespectful to compare him to Deebo Samuel and was proven correct. It was also disrespectful to think he was in the same conversation as Justin Jefferson or Tee Higgins who are the two players that got picked ahead of and behind him. I was proven correct there too based on my wide receiver rankings. For the haters’ sake, I hope they’re right because this is turning into a blowout right now. Do they ever win these? It’s down bad for the haters.
2022 better be the year of Brandon Aiyuk because I’ve been patient. I didn’t even say a word about last year and could have. You’re going to want to get your popcorn ready for this year.
