Guys, what are we doing here with Brandon Aiyuk? He isn’t in the doghouse anymore, I promise you. In fact, he’s been far and away the most impressive player at the San Francisco 49ers’ training camp this summer. You would think all this hype would result in a high ADP, right? Wrong. Somehow, he’s ranked as, wait for it, Wide Receiver 39 (PPR) on FantasyPros. That’s pretty much his location on every major ranking and it just makes no sense to me.
Sure, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle are superstars in their own right and will get the ball in their hands a ton. We also know the 49ers are a very balanced team that loves to run the ball. With Trey Lance at the helm though, I’m not sure either of those things matter. Lance LOVES Aiyuk and the chemistry between the two has been special at training camp this year.
There are literally so many clips and statements to choose from, but I limited it to these four insane plays between Lance and Aiyuk. That doesn’t look like a “poor man’s N’Keal Harry” to me. That doesn’t look like Aiyuk “stinks” to me. The Aiyuk hate makes no sense, especially after this summer. He’s a young, talented receiver who’s seen success in the last two years. Now, he’s got a dynamic quarterback who trusts him and loves throwing the ball to him. I don’t see any problems, especially when you can draft him in like the ninth or tenth round. At that price, give me Brandon Aiyuk all day, every day and twice on Sundays.
Aiyuk is definitely a fantasy sleeper this year but considering his success and hype he’s getting at training camp; he really shouldn’t be. Samuel will be the top weapon on this offense, but I honestly think Aiyuk should and will get more targets than Kittle this year. That’s how special I think the connection he has with Lance is. At worst, Brandon Aiyuk will sit on your bench and be a throw away flex play. At best though, he’s a league winner at his cheap cost. I’m definitely leaning to the latter right now and so should you.
