John Elway Confirms Drew Lock Is The Guy For 2020

Is Drew Lock going to be the long term franchise quarterback for the Denver Broncos? That remains to be seen. What we do know is that he is the guy for the 2020 NFL Season. Drew Lock impressed enough as a rookie to claim the starting job quarterback job for the upcoming season. John Elway was pretty upfront about it.

John Elway spoke to the media during exit interviews. He basically said Drew Lock is the only option for Denver:

“I don’t see any options right now. He finished and did a heck of a job. He won four out of five games and played well,” Elway said. “I don’t like to show our hand, but I think it’s unrealistic to say we’re going in a different direction.”

Elway is right about one thing. Drew Lock did win 4 of the last 5 games for Denver. It didn’t seem like Joe Flacco or Brandon Allen was capable of winning. Just for that, Lock has to be the guy for the Broncos. Denver only won 2 games before Lock got the starting job. He would have taken over much sooner if it weren’t for the thumb injury he suffered in camp.

Lock, the 2019 second round pick from Missouri, played well as a rookie. Lock completed 64.1 percent of his passes, with seven touchdowns and three interceptions. You will take that from a rookie. He also has a cannon of an arm that should play well in Denver for years to come.

As for Flacco and Allen, I’m guessing neither are back. Joe Cool has a base salary of $20.25 million for next year. There’s no reason for Denver to pay that. Brandon Allen is a restricted free agent, but he stinks so why would you even want to bring him back?
