Dave Portnoy just let out a massive sigh of relief. Thankfully for the Barstool Sports founder, UFC fighter Justin Gaethje is not going to beat him up. At least that is what Joe Rogan said. On the latest episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan assured Portnoy that Gaethje will not actually beat him up.
If you didn’t know, Gaethje and Portnoy have some beef that stems back to UFC 282. The crux of the story is that Gaethje did not like the fact that Portnoy supported Paddy Pimblett’s request for fight of the night at UFC 282. Portnoy clapped back by talking about how Gaethje took a trip to Chechnya at the request of dictator and warlord Ramzan Kadyrov. Gaethje disputed the claim and threatened to beat up Portnoy. If you want more details about the beef you can read more here.
According to Rogan, Portnoy will not have to worry about Gaethje actually beating him up, even though he can. When discussing UFC 282, Portnoy talked about the beef with Rogan.
“Did you see the war Twitter war I got in with a guy after the fact? Portnoy asked Rogan on JRE. “Justin Gaethje, he threatened to beat me up.”
“Well he definitely could,” Rogan said.
“That’s not saying much,” Portnoy said. “Your producer could be me up so that’s not much of a threat. I’ve never been in a physical altercation in my life.”
“He is the most violent man in MMA,” Rogan said. “Justin Gaethje is a f—–g savage.”
“Is he capable of beating up a civilian?” Portnoy asked.
“Would he? No, he wouldn’t do that,” Rogan said. “He is not stupid.”
Rogan is not kidding. Gaethje is one of the most violent fighters in the UFC. In 2017, he even fought Eddie Alvarez for the title “Most Violent Fighter.” While Gaethje lost that fight, he still is up there in the ranks of violence. Gaethje’s fights against Alvarez, Dustin Poirier, and Michael Chandler left buckets of blood in the octagon. He is not the type of guy that you want to fight.
I know what you are thinking. Surely, a UFC fighter would not beat someone up for talking crap, they are a professional. You would be surprised. Just ask OG Shawny Mack, the NELK Boys MMA reporter that Nate Diaz slapped. If you talk crap to the wrong MMA fighter you might actually get beat up.
Portnoy got lucky with this one. He talked crap to an MMA fighter that- probably- will not beat him up. It sounds like Portnoy will be safe if he crosses paths with Gaethje at a UFC event.
