Sam Hartman Transfers To Notre Dame
The transfer portal is getting hot and heavy. Things were trending this way but now it’s officially official. Former Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman will be taking his talents to Notre Dame for the 2023 college football season. It’s a big get for the Fighting Irish who now have an NFL caliber quarterback ready to go for next year.
Hartman has been around forever. In five years at Wake, he is the ACC career leader in touchdown passes with 110. Hartman is second in passing yards (12,967) trailing only NC State’s Philip Rivers. Yes, that Rivers who played for the Chargers. Former head coach, Dave Clawson, absolutely believes Hartman will make a big impact at the NFL level.
Drew Pyne is transferring to Arizona State after learning of the news that Hartman was expected to come to South Bend. It remains to be seen if Tyler Buchner will stay but he’s got plenty of eligibility remaining. He’s also struggled to even stay healthy or be productive. Buchner was a semi decorated recruit but could use more seasoning. Sitting a year behind a guy like Hartman wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
Hartman went 27-18 as a starter for Wake. This year, Hartman threw for 3,701 yards and 38 touchdowns. That’s while missing four games because of a blood clot issue. The expectations will be sky high on a Notre Dame team that won six of their final seven games. If Marcus Freeman has this Irish program headed in the right direction then there is no reason they can’t compete a year from now.
