Joe Douglas and the New York Jets are ready to acquire a new QB after disaster last season
The New York Jets and Joe Douglas have been enduring a wild goose chase this offseason for a new franchise quarterback. They hired Nathaniel Hackett to try to get Aaron Rodgers. They have been in the Derek Carr sweepstakes, and they could potentially draft a quarterback. All these routes are possibilities for the Jets, but Douglas will be “ready to pull the trigger” on any of them, according to theScore.
Carr met with the Jets in February. Now, he is scheduled to meet again with the team and Douglas at the combine this upcoming weekend.
“We’ll be ready to pull the trigger when we have to,” Douglas told reporters, including ESPN’s Rich Cimini, at the NFL combine on Tuesday, via theScore.
New York didn’t have a great season last year, as they slowly got pushed out of the playoff race towards the end of the year. That is all thanks to quarterback play and mostly because of former first-round pick Zach Wilson.
Douglas drafted Wilson with the second overall pick in 2021. Wilson was downright horrendous his first two seasons in the league as he has only thrown 15 touchdowns to18 interceptions. Hopefully, the Jets can reel in one of those big fish in Rodgers or Carr as their quarterback game is awful right now.
“Our stance on Zach hasn’t changed. Zach has a very high ceiling,” Douglas said, according to Garafolo, via theScore. “When players love this game and work their tails off, they usually hit their ceiling. Still feel strongly Zach’s going to hit his.”
With free agency opening up and the NFL draft around the corner, I’m sure Douglas and the Jets will be able to snag a quarterback for their future.
