After spending the last six years in New York, the Jets have decided to move on from stud linebacker, CJ Mosley. The former Alabama product signed a huge free agent contract back in 2019 but the team has decided to move on after an injury-plagued season.
The Jets released a press release to announce the news:
“It is hard to move on from a player like C.J. Mosley who has given everything of himself to an organization,” said HC Aaron Glenn. “From everything we learned about C.J. – he is a passionate leader, who put the New York Jets first and got the most out of his teammates. We wish him and his family the best as he moves forward with his career.”
Mosley, 32, is still an awesome player. This move seems to be driven by the fact that he simply wasn’t healthy last year. The veteran linebacker played just four games last season dealing with a toe and neck issue. There is no question Mosley will be coveted on the open market.
In case you’re curious on the financial angle, Mosley goes down as a post-June 1 cut. Long story short; his remaining cap hit ($16.5 million) is spread over two years… – $8.8 million this year and $7.7 million in 2026. A lot of money to pay a player to go away.
But this is what the Jets do. Overpay for players. Win nothing. Let them walk while paying dead money so they can go back to thriving for someone else. Wash, rinse, and repeat. That’s Jets football right there.
