JC Latham 2024 NFL Draft Profile

JC Latham is the next taking point for the 2024 NFL Draft Profile series. What should you know about the Alabama tackle? That’s why you’re here so I’m just going to get on with it. Let’s do this.

Latham, a former five star recruit during the 2021 cycle, was also rated as the number one overall tackle in that class. Latham was a backup guard as a freshman and then took over the right tackle spot the next two years after. The former Alabama product was Second-team Associated Press All-American and First-team All-SEC in 2023.

Off the rip, the lack of success by Alabama offensive line should probably raise some eyebrows. Evan Neal stinks. So does Alex Leatherwood. Both were former five star prospects that played right tackle for Alabama. Just saying… With Latham, there are also reasons to be concerned.

He’s a right tackle only. When I say right tackle only, I mean it. Latham checks in at 6-foot-6, 342. While he moves well for his size, I wouldn’t exactly consider him an elite athlete on NFL standards. Latham did not run the 40 and if he did, the time probably would have been disastrous. Thought it was a very shaky Combine performance in general and you can read more on that here.

The good part of Latham is the fact that he’s a bulldozer. He’s enormous and will crush you in the run game. Just not super quick footed and times the big boy takes a while to get the engine cooking. The Alabama offensive line as a whole performed terribly at the start of the season and then really heated up late in the year. Was that a product of good coaching or was the talent all clicking? Watch the Bowl game against Georgia if you want to be encouraged because it’s rare the Dawgs get pushed around like that.

I have a second round grade on JC Latham. He should be able to turn into a capable starting right tackle. The hope is that he can become another big Bryant McKinnie type of guy. If not, I do think Latham could find himself as a monster guard and pass there just fine.
