Jayson Tatum sees Memphis Grizzlies loving Marcus Smart

NBA trades have their highs and lows, and for Celtics fans, they experienced a big low this offseason in trading Marcus Smart. But for Grizzlies fans, it’s a different experience. Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum sees the Grizzlies loving their fresh addition in Smart.

Tatum isn’t the only Celtics player to react to the Smart trade. Celtics co-star Jaylen Brown sent out a heartfelt message to the former C’s long-term point guard.

“Definitely a lot of big changes,” Brown said, according to Mass Live. “Change is not always a bad thing. My brother and my teammate and one of my best friends is not on the team anymore. Everybody knows it. I learned so much from Marcus.

“Marcus has been somebody that’s, like, we butted heads at times, we fought, we did it all, we put each other in headlocks, etc. The journey won’t feel the same without him to be honest,” Brown added. “But it’s a part of life, it’s a part of what you do going forward and everything he’s instilled into this organization, everything he’s instilled into this community is still going to be with us, still carried with us. So we’re going to wish him well on his new journey. Obviously the city of Boston is going to feel the loss of his impact when he’s no longer here but we’ll be able to keep moving forward.”

Only a few weeks after the Celtics traded Smart, Tatum has finally let the cat out of the bag in reacting to the trade. The 6-foot-8 forward knows how talented Smart is and what he can now do for the Grizzlies.

“Sad to see him go but happy for him to get a new start and excited to see what he does,” Tatum said, per Memphis Commercial Appeal’s Damichael Cole.

“He knows what it takes to get (to the NBA Finals),” Tatum said. “Obviously he’s extremely talented. Best defender in the league. Just a guy you would love to have on your team.”

The Celtics’ regular season schedule hasn’t been officially released yet, but their first matchup with the Grizzlies will certainly be one to circle on your calendar.

Will Smart uplift the Grizzlies this next season? Can the Celtics survive without Smart at point guard? Let us know in the comments down below.
