Yes, there are two Louisville running backs in the 2024 NFL Draft. Jawhar Jordan is next up on the to do list. What does the Cardinals running back bring to the table? That’s what you’re here for so I’ll get on with it.
You may have noticed I’m down on Isaac Guerendo compared to the rest of the NFL Draft space. As I mentioned in his draft profile, it’s hard to get hot and bothered over a third string running back at Wisconsin. Even harder to get excited when you realize that Jawhar Jordan had more touches than him last year. Not sure why that’s not being talked about but it’s the reality.
Jordan, a former three star recruit out of the state of Arizona, originally got his playing career started at Syracuse. He didn’t play much for the Orange only rushing the ball 44 times in two years. He spent the last three years at Louisville. 2021 was pretty uneventful. The last two years Jordan made an impact and eventually was named on the first team All-ACC.
Jordan was effective in 2022 but really burst onto the scene last year. He rushed for 1,128 yards on 181 attempts and also scored 13 touchdowns. Add in 21 receptions for 246 yards and a score through the air. Jordan was 0.1 YPC more efficient than Guerendo was last year (6.2). However, he carried the ball 49 more times than his counterpart.
The skill set is fine. There isn’t a ton to be excited about. Gets the job done as a one gear guy. Better as a route runner than a magician creating runs. Solid vision that can make that one cut but that’s about all you’re getting. Ran a 4.56 in the 40. Didn’t participate in any other measurable stuff at the Combine. Didn’t have anything glowing to say about his workout. Plus route runner is the best thing he has going for him.
Checks in at 5-foot-9, 193, but has a thin lower half. No chance he’s an every down back. No top end juice. No short area juice. Most instances, it’s not enough based on the size he is for the NFL level.
I have an undrafted grade on Jordan but I’m quite sure he will end up on somebody’s practice squad. A solid depth body in case of injury but probably nothing more than that.
