Isaac Guerendo 2024 NFL Draft Profile
Moving right along here with the running backs. Next up on the list to cover is Louisville product Isaac Guerendo. What should people know about Guerendo and what he brings to the table? Let’s have a quick chat about him.
Guerendo, 24, was a former three star prospect coming out of high school. He first attended Wisconsin and ended his career at Louisville. I just think that’s worth pointing out because he basically did nothing with the Badgers. Couldn’t win the starting job over Braelon Allen. Couldn’t win the backup job over Chez Mellusi. During his four years at Wisconsin, a program that notoriously runs the football like crazy, Guerendo had 99 carries.
If you’re looking for positives, Guerendo played well during his grad transfer year at Louisville and he’s a plus in terms of size, weight, speed. Guerendo averaged 6.1 yards per carry with Louisville on 132 attempts scoring 11 touchdowns. He also flashed as a pass catcher adding 22 receptions for 234 yards.
The Indiana native checks in at 6-foot, 221. Has a track background in high school. Notched a really impressive 4.33 in the 40. On the older side but with running backs, they have shorter shelf lives anyway and it’s not like he’s got a ton of tread worn off the tires. All of the explosion numbers at the Combine were really good including a 41.5 inch vert. Pretty impressive during the on-field part of the Combine. Solid foot quickness but definitely faster than quick. Not sure we always see top end play speed.
More of a one cut and go guy. Thick body but not really sudden given the athletic traits. Can break tackles but not overly impressed in terms of vision and being creative with the stop/starts.
I have an undrafted grade on Isaac Guerendo. You’re just not going to get me hot and bothered for a third string running back at Wisconsin. I just don’t think he’s a special back. Some traits to work with and worth a look during the preseason. I just don’t see much more than that. Probably destined for a backup role that can potentially be trusted as a third down pass catcher / blocker.
