If the Red Sox want to make the playoffs, they’re going to have to do it without speedy outfielder Jarren Duran. Let’s be honest; this Red Sox season was toast anyway and they’re never going to win anything with P Boy Chaim Bloom in charge anyway.
Duran has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023 MLB Season after undergoing toe surgery.
Christoper Smith of Mass Live was the first to report the news:
Duran, 26, injured himself earlier this month scaling the wall at Yankee Stadium, attempting to reach a home run ball hit by Gleyber Torres. I apologize but can’t find the video of it anywhere. It’s a shame because Duran was having a really strong season that Karl documented a few weeks ago. Duran’s 2023 campaign will end while sporting a batting line of 295/.346/.482 for a wRC+ of 120. Duran also went 24-26 in stolen base attempts as well.
Boston will now rely on young players like Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela to fill the void for the remainder of the season. Both players have been called up in recent days following the news of the injury. Boston also has a glut of outfielders as it is with Masataka Yoshida, Adam Duvall, and Alex Verdugo.
2023 is already toast for the Red Sox anyway. Boston sits 5.5 spots out of the last wildcard spot and trail Toronto in the cat bird’s seat anyway. Focusing on getting Duran healthy for 2024 when the P boy Bloom gets fired was the smart call here.
