2023 Best College Football Games of the Year
College football is so back. We got just a sample of what is to come this past weekend with week 0, but the real season begins this week. There are so many incredible matchups in store for us, but in this article, we will be going over the 5 best games of the 2023 college football season, in no particular order. It was hard to narrow it down to just five, so expect a decent-sized honorable mention list at the bottom. Let’s talk about it.
Florida State vs. LSU (Sept. 3rd)
Two teams who will be looking to make the College Football Playoff lead off our 2023 best college football games list. This is the second of their back-to-back neutral site games, the first saw Florida State pull off a stunning 24-23 victory. Both teams have weapons on both sides of the ball and should make for an instant classic right out of the gates for this season. FWIW, both teams top their respective conferences in our rankings (click here for ACC, here for SEC).
Texas at Alabama (Sept. 9th)
Another head-to-head between two historic schools, this being a home and home. Last season, Alabama narrowly escaped with a 20-19 victory, but the tides turned after Quinn Ewers went down with an injury that forced him to miss the rest of the game. Texas had a great shot to win that game, and very well could cause Alabama some fits in this year’s game as well. Don’t be shocked if Texas finds a way to pull off the upset in Tuscaloosa.
LSU at Alabama (Nov. 4th)
This game here should probably decide who comes out of the SEC West. LSU hit a last-second field goal in their matchup last year to win 32-31, which helped propel them into the top 10 of the rankings. Brian Kelly versus Nick Saban will always be a chess match, but it will likely come down to Jayden Daniels and whoever starts at QB for the Tide, as they have yet to name an official starting Quarterback. One of the biggest games on this 2023 best college football games should be must-see TV.
Michigan at Penn State (Nov. 11th)
For my money, this game should decide who comes out of the Big Ten East to go on to make the conference championship. Penn State will look to get rid of the bitter taste that was likely left in their mouth after their 41-17 loss from a year ago. What might be the difference maker for Penn State is having Drew Allar as Quarterback this season, who just might be the missing piece. Allar dueling with JJ McCarthy should provide fireworks.
Georgia at Tennessee (Nov. 18th)
I wrote in my bold predictions post that Tennessee could make the SEC Championship, and to do so they will have to dispatch the Bulldogs. Georgia has an incredibly light schedule this year, with their only real challenges being Ole Miss and this matchup here. They will be mostly untested going into this game which could play into the advantage of Tennessee. The winner of this game could also find them in the College Football Playoffs.
