Jared Wiley 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Brock Bowers headlines the 2024 NFL Draft’s Tight End class, then really the only other notable name is Ja’Tavion Sanders. They are that upper tier, then we have a bunch of guys who are in the tiers below, but could TCU’s Jared Wiley be one of the better in that bunch? After a decent Senior Bowl and a promising NFL Combine, what does his draft profile look like? Let’s talk about it.

Wiley, a former three-star recruit, committed to Texas and played there for three years. He didn’t really see the field too often, only totaling 19 catches for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Once he transferred to TCU, he showed some nice flashes. In his final two years at TCU, he finished with 71 catches for 765 yards and 12 touchdowns, including eight this past season.

The frame on Jared Wiley should catch your eye right away (6’6, 250 lbs). For such a tall player he runs fairly well, posting a 4.62 40-yard dash time and a 1.62 10-yard split. He’s a knuckle dragger who can use those long arms to highpoint the ball well. A true red-zone threat. I don’t think he gets enough credit for his quickness in those short to intermediate routes, he’s a glider. Soft hands, drops are never really an issue with him. Also underrated in run blocking as well.

Wiley isn’t overly strong, so I wouldn’t expect him to go out and be a run-after-catch kind of guy. Broken tackles aren’t the name of his game. To really take that next step in the NFL, he’s going to need to work on his zone awareness and finding the pocket in coverage. Being a red-zone threat gets you a roster spot, but working your way onto the field will require these tools to not be viewed as a one-trick pony.

I think Jared Wiley could be a fine pro. I’m not sure he will ever develop into one of the top ten guys in the NFL, but he has the build to have a spot on a team. I have a fifth-round grade on Wiley, and I would be more than willing to use a comp pick to bring him in and see what he can do in an NFL offense. To be able to throw a 6’6 guy to the back pylon is something I am interested in.
