Jared Goff: Is It Time To Retire The Jared Goof Nickname?

Should the Jared Goof nickname be retired? Was I too harsh on Jared Goff? Let’s talk about the Lions quarterback. (Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK)

Jared Goff: Is It Time To Retire The Jared Goof Nickname?

The OG Vendetta readers know by now that I’m not exactly a Jared Goff fan. If anything, that’s kinda putting it lightly. There are several articles on the site where I just blatantly refuse to call him by his correct name. Instead, there are posts just littered with me calling the Lions quarterback, Jared Goof.

I am putting this up to the reader. In fact, I’ll insert a poll in here so people can vote on it.

Goff is still going to have his goof moments, but he’s come a long way. A very long way. Winning with the Lions is hard. Nobody has ever really done it in my entire lifetime. The Cal product is coming off a season where he completed a career-high 67.3% of his throws. He also posted a 30-12 TD to INT ratio and led the Lions to a near Super Bowl appearance.

At the same time, the Rams won a Super Bowl with Matthew Stafford and it’s pretty obvious Goff wouldn’t have been enough to get them over the hump. He also has a propensity for making some of the dumbest plays imaginable. The trade was a true win-win on both sides kind of trade.

The Goof nickname might be harsh. Goff has proven he is a legitimate starting quarterback. You can do way worse than him. Still can’t play fast but the guy honestly throws a nice ball. He deserves more credit than I used to give him. He’s also improved too.
