James Cook Proclaims Himself As Bills’ ‘RB1’

What will the Bills running back room look like in 2023? If you ask James Cook, there is no question in his mind that he will be the lead running back for the Bills this year. Devin Singletary is off to Houston, but Buffalo signed Damien Harris and Latavius Murray this offseason. Cook is not worried about the competition and believes he’s the clear cut RB1 in Buffalo.

“Obviously, RB1,” Cook said on The Rich Eisen Show, via New York Upstate’s Ryan Talbot. “So you know, just come in and do what I do. Change the game with my versatility. Catching the ball out of the backfield. Pass blocking. Just try to do what I can do to help the team win games and ultimately win the Super Bowl.”

“RB1 is running back one, so you know I’m going out there first obviously,” Cook said. “I’m ready to work. This is a big step and a goal that I wanted to accomplish in the NFL. Just do what I can do to help the team win games.”

“My goal is to be an All-Pro or Pro Bowler like my brother (Dalvin),” Cook said. “Hopefully be in the Pro Bowl with him one day.”

Cook, 23, had 89 carries for 507 rushing yards and two touchdowns as a rookie. The former Georgia product should get an increased role heading into year two. This is someone I was really high on during the predraft process and expect that breakout season to come for James. The younger Cook brother isn’t as big as Dalvin but he’s also an ace in the passing game.

Dalvin is currently a free agent and the expectation is that he will sign with the division rival Dolphins. That should be fun if we get that matchup twice a year.
