Jameis Winston Re-Signs With The New Orleans Saints

Jameis Winston has re-signed with the New Orleans Saints. The deal is a one-year deal up to $12 million. This was reported by Adam Schefter via Twitter.

The Saints could have the most expensive backup in the NFL with Winston’s deal. It’s odd to pay your backup this much when you just paid your seemingly 2021 QB starter a 4-year, $140 million contract. Although, Drew Brees just retired, the New Orleans Saints could be covering all their bases.

After having the most…peculiar season in 2019 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jameis Winston signed with the New Orleans Saints as a backup to Drew Brees in 2020, and seemingly Taysom Hill. In 2019, Jameis Winston threw for over 5,000 yards and even had 33 TDs thrown. However, he also had 30 INTs. That could have been credited to his eyes being bad. He has them fixed now and we haven’t seen what the new-eyed Winston could do now.

It is surprising to see Jameis re-signing with the New Orleans Saints when the need for a QB around the league is heavy. It could be that Winston is just happy with the New Orleans Saints. Or, at least the market for this QB wasn’t competitive. But then again, Winston did sign up to a $12 million deal. Maybe he seems himself pushing Taysom Hill for the starting spot for the Saints. The deal is questionable on both sides. However, the deal is done and both of these QBs will be on the New Orleans Saints roster for 2021.
