The NCAA wrestling championships are almost here! I have been breaking down all the weights at the tournament for Vendetta. Here is the preview for the 184-pound weight class. I broke down the 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, and the 174-pound weight class.
The top three guys at this weight are all capable of winning a national championship. Aaron Brooks from Penn State is 9-0 and the one seed in St. Louis this year. He just came off an impressive Big Ten tournament where he beat Taylor Venz convincingly in the finals.
Trent Hidlay from North Carolina State is the two seed and just avenged his only loss this season in the ACC championship finals. He lost to Hunter Bolen from Virginia Tech in a dual meet in early February, but responded in the post-season to defeat him in sudden victory.
Lou Deprez from Binghamton is the three seed with a 7-0 record who just won the EIWA tournament. He has a career winning percentage over 80 and a bonus point win percentage over 50.
Taylor Venz from Nebraska is a guy to keep an eye on. He came into the Big Ten tournament as a six seed and and upset the three and two seeds to earn a spot in the finals. He is capable of beating guys ahead of him in the bracket and is looking to do it this weekend.
Hunter Bolen is another guy who has proven he can beat the best guys in his weight. Despite losing to Hidlay in the ACC finals, he is 9-1 on the season and can be a dangerous guy to face off with in the early rounds.
Nelson Brands from Iowa is the 11 seed, but the Hawkeye is nothing like your typical double-digit seed. His last name should stand out to wrestling fans, the son of associate head coach Terry Brands. He will get a crack at Bolen in round two and that should be a great match.
Another round one match to watch will be Rocky Jordan and Jeremiah Kent. Jordan is another name that wrestling fans will know, the family has produced incredible wrestlers spanning across the last decade. He is 5-8 this season but the all Big Ten schedule makes the record a little deceiving.
Aaron Brooks is a monster and being the one seed in this bracket is a huge advantage not having to face of against Deprez to make the finals. He will get a rematch in the quarterfinals against Venz, but Brooks will roll again and should continue to dominate into the finals.
I got Deprez making the finals, he will defeat Hidlay who is not nearly as dominate as other two seeds in this tournament. I got Deprez over Brooks, the EIWA champion will beat the Big Ten champ in the finals.
TL//DR: NCAA wrestling championship preview is here for 184 pounds. There are three legitimate championship contenders in this bracket.
