The long-rumored boxing match between Jake Paul and Nate Diaz is official. The pair are set to fight at 185 pounds on Aug. 5, 2023, in Dallas, Texas. The event will be aired on DAZN pay-per-view. Ariel Helwani was the first to break the news.
This bout will serve as Diaz’s pro boxing debut and first fight since leaving the UFC. Diaz is undoubtedly one of the most popular fighters in UFC history, which is exactly why this bout is being contested. Paul has worked himself into one of the biggest pay-per-view stars in combat sports. Now, he finally has an opponent that can help draw pay-per-view buys.
For Paul, this will be his attempt to get back in the win column after losing to Tommy Fury. Despite his most recent loss, Paul is 6-1 in professional boxing with wins over MMA fighters Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. Diaz will look to be the first MMA fighter to defeat Paul.
It is worth noting this fight will be at 185 pounds. That is the typical weight range that Paul has competed in throughout his boxing endeavors; however, it is far higher than Diaz has ever fought. In his younger days, Diaz competed at 155 pounds before spending the latter portion of his career at 170 pounds.
This fight will be monumental for Diaz and Paul. The reasoning for Diaz is simple: It would be almost impossible for him to continue his combat sports career if he lost this bout. Meanwhile, if Paul loses, people will be quick to call him a fraud and look to discredit his combat sports ability.
On a more positive note, both fighters will likely walk away from this fight with a ton of money.
