Nate Diaz Has Officially Been Removed From The UFC Roster

The UFC and Nate Diaz have officially parted ways, per Damon Martin of MMAFighting. This comes as no surprise as Diaz’s fight against Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 was the final fight on his UFC contract. Now that Diaz has been removed from the UFC roster he is free to negotiate with other promotions as he explores future fights.

Ariel Helwani added that Diaz and the UFC had positive and friendly negotiations after UFC 279. These negotiations came during the UFC’s exclusive three-month negotiation period. In that time Diaz was unable to negotiate with other promotions.

“Whatever he moves on to do, I wish him nothing but the best,” White said. “He’s starting his own organization or getting into promoting or doing something else, I wish him nothing but the best of luck. It’s been awesome having him here.” Quote via MMAFighting.

Even though Diaz is a free agent he can still return to the UFC. That would become an increased possibility if the UFC is interested in a trilogy fight with Conor McGregor.

“This does not shut the door On Diaz continuing to stay in the UFC,” said Diaz’s manager Zach Rosenfield. “With the pending return of Conor McGregor, that fight still remains extremely appealing to both fans, the promotion, as well as Diaz and McGregor. But what is now clear is that the long-awaited Nathan Diaz free agent sweepstakes have begun.” Quote via Ariel Helwani.

Diaz will have plenty of free-agent suitors. Most notable will be Bellator, PFL, and ONE. Jake Paul may look to pull Diaz into the boxing ring as well. Diaz has also founded his own promotion, Real Fight Inc., which could provide him with some intriguing opportunities in a variety of combat sports.

Diaz finished his 15-year UFC career with a 16-11 record. In that time, he was one of the biggest stars in the sport and provided fans with a handful of legendary moments. His star power will make him a highly-coveted free agent.
