Jahmyr Gibbs Fantasy Draft Profile 2023: Dynasty Leagues

The Detroit Lions made one of the more shocking picks in the first round drafting Jahmyr Gibbs with the 12th overall pick in the draft. The move was so shocking that Gibbs himself was stunned to hear his name called when it was.

And none of this is an indictment on Gibbs’ play on the field. He is a very explosive running back and showed off his tools during his last season with the Tide, posting 151 carries for 926 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He also showed his abilities as a plus receiver out of the backfield, hauling in 44 catches for 44 yards and three additional touchdowns. His elite speed was also a trait that I’m sure the Lions fell in love with, running a 4.36 40-yard dash in the NFL Combine.

Even though the Lions may have reached to bring Gibbs in, that doesn’t mean he won’t be able to produce at a high level in the NFL. So with all that in mind let’s take a look at what Jahmyr Gibbs’ dynasty value in the coming years.

Dynasty League Fantasy Outlook for Jahmyr Gibbs:

Once again, when trying to determine what Gibbs’ fantasy value will be, we need to look at the players he has around him.

This Lions offensive is one that has been on the rise as of late and that is why I’m optimistic Gibbs ends up being a very solid RB2 for your dynasty league. The Lions recently traded away D’Andre Swift, which should free up plenty of carrier for the Bama product.

He will still share a backfield with David Montgomery but I still have a feeling he will end up outproducing Montgomery over the course of the season. A big reason for that is the receiving upside Gibbs can offer, we know at this point Jared Goff isn’t great and extending the ball down the field.

This means he is more likely to check the ball down and let his playmakers do the work, which feeds right into the positives Gibbs can bring to this team.

Having to split carriers is never ideal, and you hate seeing it happen as a fantasy owner of someone. But Gibbs’ receiving value alone should see him outperform Montgomery and earn him the starting running back job in Detroit. I don’t think Gibbs can ever be a true RB1 for you, but he can be a damn fine RB2/ flex option for his receiving abilities alone.

The Lions shocked the world with this pick, but all things considered, this is a great spot for Gibbs and should allow him to rack up fantasy points in this dynamic offense. Just make sure you don’t reach for him too much, as the Lions did.
