Jaguars Look to Get Laviska Shenault More Touches in 2021

The Jacksonville Jaguars finally have some life. The smallest NFL market has landed two stars in rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence and hired Urban Meyer, who already seems overwhelmed with being an NFL coach. And although they had a disappointing 1-15 season in 2020, one bright spot on the team was rookie receiver Laviska Shenault.

Shenault had 58 receptions, 600 yards, and five touchdowns in his rookie campaign and looks to take the next step in 2021. Offensive Coordinator Darrel Bevell said that Shenault is too big and strong of an athlete to not being getting a high volume of touches. Bevell had this to say about the versatility of the second year receiver.

“I really like what I see from Laviska,” Bevell said, via the team’s website. “He’s a big, strong, physical player and the guy that really needs the ball in his hands. So, that’s the first thing that you’ve got to figure out, ‘How do we give it to him? And what does it look like?’ There [are] easy, simple ways that you can kind of hand it to him and get it to him, but there’s also routes and things. So, that’s where I wanted to progress, too, and see what he was able to do as a wide receiver and I really like what I see.”

Shenault will line up alongside DJ Chark and Marvin Jones Jr. at the wide receiver position for the Jags. Jacksonville also took running back Travis Etienne in the first round and it was reported that he took all of his rookie minicamp reps at wide receiver. I think this was a little shocking to everyone but Urban Meyer said that you will have a running back with elite receiving skills. Shenault who scored eight rushing touchdowns in college at the University of Colorado and could be utilized like Etienne in both the passing and rushing attack for the Jaguars. 2021 could be a breakout year for Shenault.
