Jacksonville Jaguars 2019 NFL Training Camp Preview

Jacksonville Jaguars
We get to see a full season of Nick Foles. Is that good or bad? What else should we check out with the Jacksonville Jaguars set to open up training camp? (John Raoux/Associated Press)

Nick Foles is ready to take the league by storm. No more backup role. Now we really get to see a full season of Foles. Is that going to be a good or bad thing? Jacksonville sure ponied up financially so they obviously believe he is the guy long term. One thing we do know about this team. Boy, is that defense legit. What should we expect from Jacksonville as the Jaguars open up training camp in 2019?

3 Position Battles To Watch:

Tight End: Josh Oliver, Ben Koyack, Geoff Swaim, James O’Shaughnessy

If you were hoping for Zach Ertz on this team, you’re sadly mistaken. It’s a bunch of spare parts. Josh Oliver was drafted in the 3rd round to hopefully be the guy. Geoff Swaim was actually the starter in Dallas a year ago. He didn’t have any production though. This is just a ghost town with little hope.

Right Tackle: Will Richardson, Jawaan Taylor

The Jaguars almost picked Jawaan Taylor at 7. They somehow got him in the second round. That takes the pressure off him to start right away. Will Richardson is the other option who was drafted in the 4th round. It’s a battle of rookie tackles. May the best man win.

Linebacker: DJ Alexander, Najee Goode, Quincy Williams, Jake Ryan

Telvin Smith retired which hurts this defense more than most know. The group above will be tasked with trying to replace him. It’s not going to happen but hopefully, they can provide average production. Myles Jack is now the leader. Leon Jacobs is also a nice player. One of these guys has to produce. My bet is on Jake Ryan who had some really productive years in Green Bay. He’s coming off a major injury but modern medicine should fix him right up for the upcoming season.

Ready To Breakout: Cam Robinson

Cam Robinson has turned into a franchise left tackle. He did a nice job as a rookie. Now Robinson is poised to become one of the best in the game. Pro Football Focus doesn’t love Robinson but I don’t care. He was great at Alabama and provides awesome run blocking for a team that needs it. Jacksonville has poured a lot of resources into this offensive line and Robinson will emerge as the face of it.

Rookie To Watch: Josh Allen

Was there any other answer but Allen? With this defense, Allen is going to be a wrecking ball. Allen notched 17 sacks this past year at Kentucky in the SEC. Now he gets to play with Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue. This has a chance to be very special.

Fantasy Sleeper: Chris Conley

Chris Conley is a player with a ton of talent that never really found his niche at Kansas City. Just a few years ago, Conley blew up the combine. He’s a very athletic player that can make deep plays down the field. Why couldn’t he do it with the Chiefs? Conley has a chance to be THE GUY with Nick Foles and the Jacksonville Jaguars. I like his chances to be a factor.
