I can’t remember a wide receiver class being harder to project than this one. The 2025 NFL Draft is filled with wildcards and mysteries, with Jack Bech being at the epicenter of that conversation. It’s time to take a deeper look behind the curtain as we continue the profile series!
NFL Draft Stock Report: Senior Bowl (1), (2), (3), Game
Bech, 23, was a three star recruit hailing from the state of Louisiana. The Lafayette native signed with LSU and spent two years with the Tigers before finishing up the final two years at TCU. However, there is one tricky part of this that I’m going to dive into more in-depth later in the post. When Bech transferred to TCU, he was actually ranked as a three star tight end transfer. There’s also a basketball background here too.
I guess I’ll come right out and say it before we continue. The guy looks like a tight end to me in terms of the way he sinks his hips / runs. No 40 for Bech at the Combine, and we know it would have been a dirt-slow time. Even at TCU, Bech played on one side of the field pretty much every snap. Just based on the movement skills, I see a tight end, but I’m sure many will disagree. Mostly because he’s not big enough to be a tight end. There in lies the problem.
Bech is really good at the contested catch stuff. He basically became a legend at the Senior Bowl for doing just that. Bech was Senior Bowl MVP and looked good during the on-field portion of the Combine. The guy has nice hands and ripping out 19 on the bench press is a very good sign. You can see the guy works hard and is built pretty nicely. Checking in 6-foot-1, 219, with some decent pipes on him. Not overly tall but the play strength is there.
By the way, I know I’m painting a bad picture of Bech calling him a tight end. I just question if the skillset is NFL translatable. It’s not like we have zero evidence on whether the guy can play. Back in 2021 with LSU, he actually led the team with 43 receptions. That’s a really hard thing to do as a freshman at a school like that. Then in 2022, he was buried on the depth chart. Even at TCU, he was a backup in 2023 posting 12 total receptions that year. Then he broke out this past year, notching 62 receptions for 1,034 yards and nine scores. I didn’t put him in the stock report notes this year, mostly because I thought TCU’s other receiver was better, but I’ll get to him in a future post. It’s not like Bech can’t play. It’s more so we got rollercoaster vibes here.
Just no twitch here. Needs to win those contested catch situations. Not a route running queen, and short area burst is limited. It’s also only really one year of real production going against Big 12 defenses. Not a big YAC guy, but just one drop last year is encouraging.
I guess I’m lower on Jack Bech than others. I would tell the guy to lift weights like a maniac to be a receiving tight end. He’s a 5th-6th round project for me. If you want this guy to be a high end outside receiver as your second round pick, I would just warn you to be careful about drinking too much Kool-Aid.
