J.C. Jackson Not Impressed By Tua Tagovailoa Following Patriots’ Loss

The NFL is back and so are players being petty after a loss. The Patriots and Dolphins faced off in week one of the 2021 season after a noisy offseason surrounding both Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa. As for Mac, Cam Newton was just released and the Dolphins recently made a run at Deshaun Watson. The former Alabama QBs had their first meeting against each other and whether or not Mac outplayed Tua, Tagovailoa and the Dolphins walked away with the W. After the game, however, Patriots’ stud corner J.C. Jackson did not mince his words when it came to the Dolphins’ quarterback. Jackson was critical of Tagovailoa when talking about his late-game interception.

“That’s what Tua do. If he doesn’t have his first read, he’s just gonna throw the ball up and that’s when we capitalize on defense when he makes mistakes like that.”

via Andrew Callahan, The Boston Herald

The play Jackson is referring to came with almost eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Miami had a 3rd and 7, Tagovailoa scrambled to his right and threw up a prayer while getting blasted by Matt Judon. The ball was bobbled and tipped before being secured by Patriots’ DB Jon Jones. In hindsight, the throw was pretty inexcusable as the Dolphins were deep in their own territory and winning the game. This was really the only mistake for Tua on the whole day other than that I thought he played fine. Tagovailoa talked about the play after the game saying he was trying to throw it away but didn’t get the distance on the throw he would have liked.

Not sure what J.C. Jackson is doing making these comments especially after a loss. You can talk bad about someone if you held them to 100 yards passing and three picks but let’s be honest, the Dolphins sliced and diced the Patriots’ secondary all afternoon. Jackson is going to be in the spotlight for the first six weeks as former DPOY Stephon Gilmore is on the physically unable to perform list. He is not new to being the number one corner as Gilmore missed time in 2020 but the Patriots have a defensive back issue that needs to be fixed ASAP.

Both QBs looked good yesterday but an uncharacteristically sloppy day for New England leaves them with an L.
