Former two-time NBA champion Isiah Thomas is now joining the Phoenix Suns in front office role, according to Chris Haynes.
Thomas spent 13 seasons in the NBA, all with the Detroit Pistons. He would go on to win two NBA championships, earn 12 All-Star selections, become a member of the NBA 75th anniversary team, and much more. He is also considered too many as the greatest point guard in NBA history. Over the course of his career, Thomas averaged 19 points and nine assists on 45.2 field goal percentage. Thomas would also play around 1,000 games in the league.
Previously, Thomas has been a part of the Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors in front office capacities. He coached for the Pacers from 2000-03. Adding on, he was the president of basketball operations for the Knicks from 2003-08 and coached for them from 2006-08. For the Toronto Raptors, Thomas was a front office executive for them from 1994 to 1997.
Safe to say Isiah “Zeke” Thomas has had the experience when it comes to coaching and playing in the NBA.
The Suns have not designated any specific role for Thomas, but new owner Mat Ishbia plans to have Thomas be a part of a prominent role in the front office staff. Ishbia, 43, was officially announced as the owner of the Phoenix Suns this week when the NBA’s board of governors approved him as the next owner for the Suns. The deal was closed on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, according to Baxter Holmes.
***It is being reported that Isiah Thomas will not be joining the Phoenix Suns front office under Mat Ishbia even with the previous rumored hire. According to a team spokesperson.***
