Ireland Wants To Host An NFL Game

The NFL has hosted international games in England, Germany, Mexico, and Brazil. Ireland hopes that they can be next on the list. Based on how much the league keeps pushing toward these international games, you can’t rule anything out if legislators in Ireland push hard enough.

Catherine Martin, Ireland’s minister for tourism, culture, arts, Gaeltacht, sport, and media, made it clear that there is momentum in hosting an NFL game in Ireland.

“I would say it’s under active consideration,” Martin said, according to Ian Curran of the Irish Times. “I think we’ve seen the absolute benefit in real terms of the college football, so you can imagine what (an NFL game) would do.”

NFL Seeks Games in France and Spain

Soooo who would the NFL send over there? The Jaguars are basically the London team. Would the NFL designate a particular team to play in front of the Irish people? Roger Goodell has hinted that if a game is played there, the Pittsburgh Steelers are a front runner, with the caveat that it seems likely a game will happen eventually.

“I know the (Pittsburgh) Steelers really want to go there (Dublin),” Goodell said, according to BBC Sport. “I have no doubt we will be playing in Ireland. I don’t know if it’ll be next year but it’s coming soon.”
