The Houston Texans draft class really happened last year. What do I mean by that? Well, Houston traded their valuable picks to land Deshaun Watson and rid themselves of Brock Osweiler. The good news is that Houston has their franchise quarterback and does have three third-round picks to work with. If the Texans can find gems in the middle rounds, the move to trade up for a quarterback becomes an obvious decision. Having said that, what can we expect from the Houston Texans in the 2018 NFL Draft?
Let’s throw some darts out there because it’s pretty difficult to predict who the Texans could take in the third round. How about some offensive line help? Duane Brown was traded during the deadline and the Texans are set to put out a hideous starting offensive line. Now maybe the Texans aren’t hindered by this as much as most teams would be because of Watson’s escapability. Julie’n Davenport is the starting left tackle and he might be the worst tackle in the league. Chuks Okorafor, Frank Ragnow, Sean Welsh, etc. Pick a name out of a hat, you might be correct.
How about a tight end? C.J. Fiedorowicz retired and Houston really doesn’t have a reliable target for the middle of the field. Instead of wasting picks on slot receivers that won’t work like Braxton Miller, let’s find a tight end that can do damage. Troy Fumagalli of Wisconsin could be a target. Despite that fact that he only has 9 fingers, Fumagalli is really a complete tight end who can block and catch. Dallas Goedert and Mike Gesicki would be higher on my list but you can’t count on them being there in the third round.
Again, it’s hard to pick out what a team could do in the third round. The Texans defense really doesn’t need a whole lot of help but they could target a best available sort of defender. With J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus coming back, the Texans defense could be scary.
