Google’s Pixel Fold Phone Release Date and Price Confirmed
Are we going back in time? That’s what it feels like when viewing the budding folding phone market. What was once considered analogue, out of date and for “old people,” has become somewhat popular again. Google’s upcoming Pixel Fold phone is no exception to this, with recent news and leaks regarding the phone revealing that the Pixel phone will be hitting shelves sooner than anticipated.
What The Leaks Entail
According to the leaks, the Pixel Fold is to fully be revealed on May 10 at Google’s I/O developer conference, with the official release date for the phone coming sometime in June. The phone boasts a mind-bogglingly high price tag of $1,700.
The leaks also included several of the new features the Pixel Fold will have, including the “most durable hinge on a foldable.” It will be water-proof, pocket-sized, have a 7.6 inch screen and a 24-hour battery. The phone will be heavier as a result of having a bigger battery, weighing in at 10 ounces.
The Growing Folding Phone Market
Now, the Pixel Fold is one of several phones that have returned to the analogue practice of being a flip phone. This is mostly due to the success of Samsung and its line of foldable phones. Although, these modern foldable phones do have the advantage of offering more screen to users — hence the success of Samsung’s lineup.
Google wants to shake things up with the Pixel Fold, however. The company wants to challenge Samsung and its control over this niche market.
With everything that’s been happening in the tech industry, they might just need to. Between the mass layoffs in tech companies to the failure of Silicon Valley Banks, Google has been having a rough time lately. Perhaps this is the company’s chance for a comeback.
