Giants Sign Castoff Devonta Freeman
You never want to see players get hurt, but in Week 2 of the NFL, numerous players went down with injuries Saquon Barkley tore his ACL which is a crushing blow to the Giants. New York went out quickly to the free-agent market and tried to find a replacement. Devonta Freeman has signed with the Giants to try to fill the Barkley void.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported the news:
The deal is not official as of yet but expected to get done. Freeman needs to pass his COVID test and physical. As long as that gets done, Freeman will become a member of the Giants. We also don’t have the contract details yet, but I’ll bet it’s less than what he could have gotten from Seattle.
Freeman, 28, has had a tough time finding a job. It’s not hard to figure out why.
A: Freeman isn’t good at his job.
B: His contract demands were outrageous.
Freeman won’t be the only guy in the running back room. Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman were the other backs on the roster. Lewis did not perform well filling in for Barkley in Week 2. The former standout at the University of Pittsburgh is coming off a ten carry, 20 yard game against the Bears. The Giants needed another body in this running back room.
It’s been a rough offseason for the man who had to create a burner account to defend himself. It was not a good look for the guy. Hey, he’s back in the league now. The bad news is the Giants offensive line is awful so he likely won’t have much help from his protection.
