Frankie Edgar Set to Join The UFC Hall of Fame

At UFC 297, the UFC announced Frankie Edgar will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. Edgar will be the first member of the UFC Hall of Fame Class of 2024.

Edgar will be inducted into the Modern Wing of the Hall of Fame.

The UFC has not had many fighters like Edgar. “The Answer” made his debut in 2007 and fought elite competition until his retirement in 2022. That insane longevity has put Edgar towards the top of many UFC stats, the most notable being that he’s second in octagon time with nearly eight hours of fight time.

Edgar started his career as an undersized lightweight who worked his way to a UFC title. In 2010, Edgar defeated fellow legend B.J. Penn to win the lightweight title. After, he defended that title three times which is tied for the most in divisional history.

Edgar’s success traveled down to the featherweight division later in his career. Despite never winning the title, Edgar fought for the featherweight belt twice. Plus, he fought for the interim title once.

Late in his career, Edgar ventured down to bantamweight. That experiment did not end well, but it was largely because he was far out of his prime.

Outside of accomplishments, Edgar should also be remembered for his trilogy with Gray Maynard. The pair fought to a 1-1-1 record while consistently providing fans with sensational fights.

Edgar is a perfect fighter to headline the 2024 UFC Hall of Fame Class. In his career, he fought in the promotion for over a decade, reached titles and entertained fans. After retiring in 2022, it was only a matter of time before Edgar was enshrined in the UFC Hall of Fame.
