Missouri has significantly bolstered its roster with the addition of former Georgia defensive end Damon Wilson II, per 247sports.com, making their transfer class one of the nation’s best. The Tigers have done a stellar job in the transfer portal, bringing in talent on both sides of the ball. Playing in the SEC is no joke, so Missouri loading up on talent in the portal is considered a massive win for the program.
Wilson, who chose Missouri over Ohio State after recent visits to both campuses, was a five-star recruit coming out of high school, ranked as the nation’s No. 17 overall prospect. Wilson had a bounty of scholarship offers, most notably from Georgia, Ohio State, and Alabama.
During his first year at Georgia, Damon Wilson II played in 12 games, contributing modestly with four tackles and a half sack, including a game against Missouri where he did not record any stats. By 2024, however, his role and stats significantly improved. He played in all 14 of Georgia’s games, recording 22 tackles, six for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. Despite this uptick in performance, Wilson sought a fresh start elsewhere, leading to his transfer to Missouri.
Damon Wilson II is not only the highest-rated transfer in this year’s class but also matches the highest-rated transfer ever to commit to the Tigers, alongside Cayden Green. His arrival is timely as he’s expected to vie for the starting defensive end position left vacant by Johnny Walker Jr., who concluded his senior year with an impressive 44 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks, including a notable streak of at least half a sack in each of the final seven games.
Wilson will join a defensive line that includes returning starter Zion Young, and reserves Jahkai Lang and Eddie Kelly Jr., with former Georgia transfer Darris Smith also expected back after missing the previous season due to injury. This infusion of talent and experience could be pivotal for Missouri’s defensive strategies in the upcoming season.
