Flyers Sign Owen Tippett To Lucrative Eight-Year Extension
Owen Tippett is officially entrenched as part of the new Orange era entrusted by Danny Briere and Keith Jones. Hey, Tippett’s hair sure does fit the Orange era. The man who was acquired in the Claude Giroux trade just got paid. C’mon… it’s hard to not say Tippett wasn’t born to be a Flyer with that hair he’s got going on.
Tippett and the Flyers have agreed to a lucrative eight-year contract extension. The deal is worth $49.6 million as Tippett will now carry an AAV of $6.2 million when the deal kicks in.
Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff was the first with the full details.
Tippett, 24, now has the fourth-largest contract on the team. Only Sean Couturier and Joel Farabee are ahead of him. Of course, Ryan Ellis is too but he’s not ever going to play again.
In 46 games on the season, Tippett has 18 goals and 12 assists. He’s on pace for career highs across the board. The former Panthers farmhand has solid speed and has quickly turned into an offensive force. Still needs work on the defensive side of the puck but I don’t think Philly fans can complain with the return on the Giroux deal.
Tippett is currently on IR and is expected to return after the All-Star break. The important part is that it looks like Philadelphia has an exciting forward locked up for the foreseeable future. The former 10th overall pick in 2017 will look to make a strong impact on the next winning Flyers team.
