Eagles Counting On Tyler Steen In 2024?
The Chiefs aren’t the only contender that has an important position battle along the offensive line heading into the 2024-25 NFL Season. Franchise icon Jason Kelce retired this offseason and Philadelphia will need to find a solution. It would appear that Philadelphia has their ducks in a row and are going to rely on Tyler Steen to start in 2024.
In a recent article by ESPN going over camp buzz in the NFC East, it would appear that Steen is the favorite to start at right guard. Cam Jurgens will be the one who replaces Kelce.
“On offense, the Eagles need to fill the vacancy at right guard created when Cam Jurgens moved to center to replace All-Pro Jason Kelce, who retired this offseason. Second-year player Tyler Steen appears to be the front-runner heading into camp.”
Steen, a 2023 third round pick out of the University of Alabama, played tackle during the vast majority of his college career. The Miami, Florida native checks in at 6-foot-6, 321 with over 32 inch arms. He should have the necessary length to thrive at guard and it’s probably the right move for him.
As a rookie, Steen didn’t exactly play well. Take the PFF grades with a grain of salt but the former Bama product registered a 53.2 grade and a 21.9 pass blocking grade. It wasn’t exactly sunshine and rainbows as a rookie but the team is obviously expecting a leap coming in year two.
If Steen bombs, Trevor Keegan and Dylan McMahon could become options after being selected on day three of the 2024 draft. Former Temple product and Falcons center Matt Hennessy was also picked up as a free agent this offseason.
