The XFL is coming back! Dwayne Johnson, the new owner of the league, announced that the XFL will return in the spring of 2022. “The XFL is back. Back for the love of football.”
Dwayne Johnson said the following in a video that was posted to Instagram and twitter:
THE XFL RETURNS SPRING 2022
As owners, we’re proud to champion our XFL players, coaches, cities and fans into an electrifying 2022 season!
I’m so inspired to put in the work because football always represented an opportunity to me. Opportunity to take care of my family. And even though my dreams of playing pro football never came true – I’m in the exciting and humbling position to create opportunity for players so their dreams can come true.
It’s an uphill battle – but we’re hungry, humble and no one will outwork us.
A league of culture, passion & purpose
We are the XFL and we’re back spring 2022!
A few months ago, Dwayne Johnson purchased the defunct football league, and people immediately started speculating about an XFL return. Nothing had formalized until this morning, with the release of a promotional and motivational style video on Johnson’s social media platforms.
Fans were loving the XFL, not so much for the players’ skill but because of everything else around the league. The Skycam (a computer-controlled, stabilized, cable-suspended camera system), an official in the replay booth that could overturn bad calls in real-time instead of either waiting a significant amount of time.
In the 2020 version of the XFL, coaches and players wore microphones during games, allowing fans to hear everything that was going on. Anyone who loved the little details about play-calling loved this as they could listen to play calls and what players are saying on the field. The best part happened to be the postgame celebrations in the locker room were broadcast live. Who doesn’t love people crushing cans after a win?
Dwayne Johnson said that he could never make it playing professional football, but now he’s in the position to allow other people to chase their dreams. An XFL return is great for everyone involved.
