The legend of Drew Timme has finally come to an end and is set to enter the 2023 NBA Draft. Timme was an iconic player at Gonzaga but does he have what it takes to make an impact at the NBA level? That’s exactly what we’re here to discuss. Let’s just right into the 2023 NBA Draft Profile for the three time consensus All-American.
Let Timme eat. Around the basket, Timme is such a crafty player that it’s hard to see how he doesn’t at least have a chance to carve a roll out for himself at the NBA level. The guy just scores and does it at an efficient level. It’s an old school back to the basket type style but Timme thrives at it.
There are a lot of tools in the tool chest here. Hook shots with both hands, hits the fadeaway cheese, and really good at pump fakes. Gonzaga really prides itself on that floater and Timme can hit those just fine too. The bank is always open and Timme just does such a good job at finding the right angle to get his shot.

It may be fair to question the overall playmaking ability. At Gonzaga, teams just doubled him and Timme was able to find the open guy for the assist. Does that still translate if he’s able to be guarded one on one? The positive is that he’s a really good screen setter. It’s something that ignites the offense regardless of if he’s putting the ball in the basket.
Timme has to improve his shooting if he’s going to make it at the next level. Right now he’s just not a threat from three and that has to change. He’s not consistent enough at the line either. Those two things just have to get better. It’s pretty straight forward.
The defense isn’t a huge issue because Timme has the motor. Athletic limitations are what hold him back. Dudes in the open court can just blow by him. He’s an average rim protector but is going to get attacked in pick-and-rolls. Far from the ideal big man from an athletic stand point.
NBA Comparison: David Lee
It’s hard to find a comp for Timme given how unique of a player he is. Hard to find a sweet spot when talking about an All-American player that’s had a lot of success. David Lee, however, feels like an okay one. Old school player that didn’t have the long range game needed to really stick in the modern NBA. Lee had potential and could score but was mostly a roll player in his hay day.
Draft Projection: Second Round
Karl does not have Timme listed in his mock draft. I don’t think many people do. The consensus is if someone selects Timme, it’s in the back half of the second round.
Best NBA Fit: Suns, Bucks, Timberwolves
Looking at teams with late second round picks here that need bench help. The Suns are clearly sick of Deandre Ayton. Could Timme become that off the bench big to lessen the offensive load of Durant / Booker?
The Bucks already have good rim protection. What about Timme as an off the bench scorer?
The Wolves also have good rim protection. What about Timme off the bench to pick up the scoring load from Gobert?
