Manchester United’s hunt for Jadon Sancho has been one of the highlights of the transfer season. The deal seemed to be closing down last week when United agreed to a lower transfer fee. However, Borussia Dortmund has raised the price on Sancho.
Now it seems like the deal has come to a halt since Dortmund is now demanding a £108million transfer fee. This would crush the Premier League record transfer of £89 million when United paid Juventus for Paul Pogba in 2016.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has said that the transfer fees should be lower this year due to the economic impact that each team has taken from the pandemic. Dortmund hasn’t followed this course of action though. But, United doesn’t seem eager to budge from their decision last week.
However, the deal will come to a close soon. Dortmund has created an artificial deadline for Aug. 10 since the team will leave for Switzerland for preseason training. If United will fall in line with the deadline is up in the air.
It’s even reported that United and Sancho have just come to a wage agreement. According to some reports, the 20-year-old has agreed to £340k-a-week five-year deal. Sancho was able to provide 17 goals and 16 assists in 32 appearance for the 2019-20 season. Which was why United has been after him this whole season.
As of right now, it’s unclear which team will budge on negotiations. Or if Sancho is willing to take a wage lower than his asking price.
If United can’t pull in Sancho, they may be after Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman. Only time will tell.
