Don’t Eat The Cheese: 2024 Fantasy Football Quarterback Busts

Last year I was four out of five on my Don’t Eat The Cheese list for the quarterback position. The results continue to speak for themselves. You can continue to watch dopes like Matthew Berry but we literally have proof that I’m significantly more talented than him. You can’t hide the evidence. The Cheese series is back and we start with the quarterbacks.

The strategy for Don’t Eat the Cheese is simple. It’s all about crossing names off the list. These players are being so overvalued that you’re better off just crossing them off the list – AKA what I said about Justin Fields last year who was somehow QB6 according to most rankings (another win for Trey).

Let’s get right down to business. This is your Don’t Eat The Cheese 2024 Fantasy Football quarterback busts. Oh, and this is for Superflex leagues because by now I shouldn’t even have to mention the fact that you’re a noob if you’re playing a one QB league.

Daniel Jones (Giants)

Daniel Jones is consistently being ranked as QB25 regardless of what ranking service you use. I’m just confused as to why he’s not QB30, 31, or 32. Jones has some rushing ability but he’s constantly hurt and it’s not something the Giants want to lean into. Even when Jones was passable in 2022, he still only had 15 passing touchdowns.

This is a real stat. Daniel Jones has not thrown two or more touchdown passes in a game since December of 2019. Everything we have seen this preseason has been terrible. It’s time to throw in the towel here.

Even that idiot Joe Schoen said “past performance is the best predictor of future performance”. Everything Jones has done in the past warrants him being at the bottom of any QB list. To put him ahead of guys who have real upside to pop is insane. What are the odds Jones makes it healthy through a full season and what are the odds he’s even productive in a season that already feels like a disaster is coming?

Even in two QB leagues, Jones is one of the last players at the position I’m signing up for.

Geno Smith (Seahawks)

I don’t think Geno is being irresponsible ranked like he was last year. He’s going around QB22, which is fine on the surface. I just think Sam Howell is better and that time will prove that to be the case. If I’m drafting Geno, I’m terrified he gets replaced midseason. I don’t know how you couldn’t be nervous about it. By the way, Howell outscored Geno in fantasy last year… by a lot.

Deshaun Watson (Browns)

Deshaun Watson can usually be found in the QB20 spot depending on what ranking service you’re looking at. I don’t know how to say this other than by just pointing out that Joe Flacco was miles better than him last year. Flacco threw for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns in five games last year with the Browns. Watson threw for 1,115 yards and seven touchdowns in six games last year. He also suffered a major injury and looked like trash even when healthy.

I think the biggest mistake people make in fantasy is forgetting that these are real people. The Chinese Farmer is always right but the likeliest range of outcome here is that Watson is making so much money that it doesn’t feel like he even cares anymore. Are we sure Jameis Winston won’t be the 2024 version of Flacco?

Unless Watson is free, I’m out and right now he’s being consistently ranked in the same range as guys like Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers. Let Watson be someone else’s problem because the truth of the matter is, there isn’t a team in the NFL that would take this problem off the Browns’ hands in real life. Cleveland is also currently carrying four quarterbacks. They’re telling you everything.

Kirk Cousins (Falcons)

Kirk Cousins is pretty much the QB17 on every single list you read. Genuinely, I have no idea why so many people are so high on this Atlanta thing. To me, this has Russell Wilson / Broncos vibes all over again. A declining 37-year-old Cousins coming off a torn Achilles is not going to be the savior to a team that’s gone 7-10 three straight years.

Don’t Falcon fans remember when Matt Ryan was toast and they laughed at when the Colts traded for him? This feels like the exact same thing. If the Falcons were 100% sure, they don’t draft Michael Penix. Something the Falcons are handling really weird right now.

I really don’t get it. The Falcons have no team speed on offense. The bailout Justin Jefferson special no longer exists. Hell, Jordan Addison is better than any receiver the Falcons employ. There is no rushing upside with Cousins. In that QB 17 range, I like just about every other option.

Lamar Jackson (Ravens)

If you’re smart you understand already that Lamar is the NFL’s version of Rudy Gobert. Certainly a unique skillset but flawed and never capable of actually leading a team to legitimate Super Bowl contention. If the Ravens had any pride, they would admit I was right, and just give me the job to try to fix their mess already. It’s not arguable… Josh Allen is way better, and I’m on record multiple times for saying he would have been my pick that year. It’s such a shame we’ll never get to see the alternate universe of how many championships Allen would have won in Baltimore.

Everything went right for the Ravens last year. They played from in front constantly and Lamar actually was healthy for the whole season. I’ll bet against this clown every single year. It just means this year the regression is coming, which should be the case after Baltimore lost Mike Macdonald and will be given a ridiculously hard first place schedule. Plus, Derrick Henry is in town now and he will likely get the short yardage work putting a hamper on some of Jackson’s rushing totals.

We need to stop pretending Jackson is an elite quarterback in any sense of the word. Allen will continue to make him look like the RC Cola version of himself in terms of fantasy production.
