Dillon Brooks Said He Is Going To ‘Lock Up’ LeBron James
Dillon Brooks will get to play LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday for the first time since the two matched up in Western Conference Semifinals last year.
As many of us saw, the Lakers handled the Grizzlies, Brooks’ former team, in six games. But that didn’t stop Brooks from talking trash–win or lose, he never retracts the statements that he makes.
When being interviewed about the game plan for the Lakers, the new Houston Rockets guard claimed that he would lock up LeBron James.
“Ready to lock him up,” he said, according to Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle. “He’s shooting the ball well. He’s been playing well. So I’m just there to make him tired, make him get into that fourth quarter early.”
“Full-courting him when he wants to bring it up,” Brooks said. “Any time he’s posting up on the block, I’m bumping him. Bumping him on the jog back. If he’s guarding me I want to attack him. Just getting him into multiple actions.”
Last season, Dillon Brooks said that he “pokes bears” and wasn’t afraid of LeBron James and the Lakers. It seemed like these comments lit a fire under the Lakers and many fans were not happy with how much Brooks was publicly trash-talking.
Although James doesn’t directly respond to these comments, we can assume that when Brooks says these things, he uses them as motivation.
After talking about his game plan, Brooks started to make other comments about LeBron and the media.
“I feel like he (James) controls the media,” Brooks said. “I feel like a lot of guys, you know, have these podcasts and love social media, but I don’t really like it. I don’t really like media. If I didn’t have to talk to you guys I wouldn’t talk to you guys. And you know, I just block it out and just play basketball.”
It is a bit ironic that he doesn’t like talking to the media, but will make controversial claims and trash-talk one of the best players of all time–a part of me thinks that this is just a villain role that he likes to play.
Regardless, we will see if he can lock up LeBron and the Lakers this time around, or if he will get embarrassed like he did back in April.
