Travis Hunter lit the college football world on fire this past Saturday. Playing 129 snaps on both sides of the ball at cornerback and wide receiver, Hunter became one of the major reasons why Colorado upset then-No. 17-ranked TCU 45-42 on the road, and head coach Deion Sanders gave some high praise to the 20-year-old.
Hunter exploded in his first game with the Buffaloes. He hauled in 11 catches for 119 yards and one crucial goal-line interception in the big win. With the help from Hunter, the Buffaloes reached top-25 status for the first time since 2020, and it looks like they aren’t going anywhere.
“This kid is a first-rounder on both sides of the ball, like a first pick,” Sanders said on Undisputed. “He is the first pick. That’s who he is. Travis is, and he loves the game. He does not tire of loving the game and wanting to be in the game and studying the game and all of the intricate details of the game.”
Hunter, who isn’t draft eligible until the 2025 NFL Draft, isn’t just a talented athlete, he is a hard-working one as well. Sanders described the standout athlete’s work ethic and persona as “different.”
“I told him last week, ‘You’re resting. I don’t want to see you practicing until Friday, until we get to Fort Worth.’,” he said. “Travis was on the field Thursday trying to go both ways. I said, ‘Didn’t I just tell you I don’t want you practicing?’”
Colorado is set to take on Nebraska as their next matchup on Saturday, Sep. 9 at 12 pm EST in Deion Sanders’ home debut. But only four games into the season, the Buffaloes face their first real test of the year. In back-to-back games, Hunter and Colorado will take on No. 13-ranked Oregon and number six USC.
