Travis Hunter and Colorado have done one of the most unbelievable things the college football world has seen in a while. After a 45-42 win in their season opener against TCU, Hunter and Colorado have broken the internet, in doing so, Hunter deserves the Heisman trophy right now.
Hunter became one of the many attractions in the Buffaloes’ season opener. With 11 catches for 119 yards and one crucial goal-line interception, Hunter is already arguably the best player in college football.
Outside of Hunter, head coach Deion Sanders‘ son, Shedeur Sanders, balled out. Sanders set the Buffaloes school record for passing yards in a game with 510 yards. On top of that, Sanders passed for four touchdowns, including three to running back Dylan Edwards.
Deion spoke with his son after his big win, exclaiming how proud he was of his team.
“I’m loving these kids. This is a blessing. I thank you all.”
After their win, Colorado is looking to gain momentum into their season and will look to be a part of the AP Poll top 25. The Buffaloes are set to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sept. 9. Looking ahead in the season, Colorado is set to take on some gnarly opponents, including number No. 15-ranked Oregon and No. 6 USC, who has future No. 1 pick Caleb Williams behind center.
Hunter is obviously a special talent, but winning the Heisman trophy is a tall task for someone who is only 20-years-old. With all the talent in college football this season, it will certainly be an exciting season, and race for the Heisman. I certainly think Hunter can win the nation’s best player award, potentially even beating out his teammate Sanders, but the season is just starting.
Could we be seeing another defensive player win the Heisman this season? Does Hunter have what it takes? Let us know in the comments below.
