Deandre Ayton: The Suns Totally Botched The Trade

Can we just have a quick chat about the Suns’ inclusion on the Damian Lillard trade? Great because I truly don’t understand it. As mentioned in the trade grades, Phoenix deserves an F, and giving away Deandre Ayton in this fashion should be viewed as a travesty.

Karl had a great breakdown on Ayton months ago. We always knew it was going to be a challenge to offload Ayton. I also totally understand why they wanted to dump him. Ayton is so damn talented but the guy needs to be slapped so bad. Until that happens, he’s going to continue to underachieve.

I hate this move for so many reasons. For starters, I was lowkey excited to see if Frank Vogel could unlock him. Vogel is a really good coach and hasn’t gotten the credit he deserves. Don’t forget that Roy Hibbert played out of his mind in Indiana with Vogel. Vogel spoke highly of Ayton in the offseason too. That Suns team is really good and a motivated Ayton as the fourth guy could have been special.

Still, for this? WTF were the Suns doing? Ayton for as many problems as he has averaged 18 and 10 last year. Those type of guys don’t grow on trees. They receieved four guys and none of them will help.

Grayson Allen sucks and that’s coming from a Duke fan that’s writing this. He’s not helping you. He didn’t help Milwaukee in each of the last two years. Nurkic blows too. You can’t tell me that Nurkic is an upgrade at center. What did you get here? Ten minutes a night out of Nasir Little? That’s a joke.

Phoenix totally botched this. They turned Ayton’s contract into four bad deals instead of one. If this is what the Suns had to do to trade Ayton, they should have waited until the deadline. At least wait until a team gets desperate. The Myles Turner trade (or Buddy Hield?) trade was waiting for them.

Phoenix will be really good next year but there is no question they’re worse after making this deal.
