Clemson has put out a lot of successful wide receivers at the NFL level, but what about tight end? Do any prominent Clemson tight ends come to mind? Davis Allen will try to become really the first during the Dabo era. Let’s get right to his 2023 NFL Draft profile!
You can see my Senior Bowl and Combine notes on Allen here. I think the biggest thing that worries me about Allen is the speed. You don’t see any wow ever. Might be a Clemson guy but Allen was just a three-star recruit. The biggest thing he really has going for him is being 6-foot-6.
A 4.84 just isn’t good enough. It’s just not. I don’t really know what Allen provides other than having an ability to win those 50-50 balls. Not strong enough either. The blocking is below par. Not sure he ever survies as in in-line blocker. If he’s not going to block and can’t run either, I’m just not sure what we’re doing.
The production improved in 2022. Allen hauled in 39 receptions for 443 yards and five scores. Allen never topped 250 yards in any single season prior to 2022. Is that NFL caliber? I’m just not sure how you feel good about that lack of production while playing for the most dominant team in the conference.
I have an undrafted grade on Davis Allen. Outside of the height, I’m not sure how much there is to be excited about. By all means, I think he deserves a shot to see him in preseason action. Other than that, I’m just not willing to go there.
