Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams has once again shown why he is an elite talent, but this time it’s without his MVP quarterback. Adams’ play last season buried the notion that he doesn’t need his former QB Aaron Rodgers.
The Green Bay Packers traded Adams after a long, but successful eight seasons. In Green Bay, Adams found a QB-WR duo like no other with Aaron Rodgers, clicking for 8,000 yards and 52 touchdowns together. But now, Adams hasn’t skipped a beat without Rodgers in Las Vegas. Last season, Adams lead the league with 14 receiving touchdowns while also adding 1,516 receiving yards.
“It proved that I am me,” Adams told The Ringer’s Mirin Fader. “A quarterback doesn’t make me. … I make me.”
“That’s why (last) season meant a lot. Even if I went and played like dogshit next year, they can’t say it. Because now I’ve already proved it throughout the course of a season, played every game, and put together a resume that says I do not need – You can erase all the numbers. You can just write in: ‘He didn’t need Aaron Rodgers.'”

The former duo has parted in different directions. Rodgers joined the New York Jets in the offseason, while Adams got a new QB in Jimmy Garoppolo. Even with Rodgers joining the Jets, the veteran QB had his eyes set on a potential reunion with the Raiders a while back. Now, even with the duo’s breakup, it still seems as if Rodgers has his eyes on Adams. This will be the second consecutive season with the duo away from each other.
