Darryl Sutter Doesn’t Care About Jakob Pelletier
Don’t ask Darryl Sutter about Jakob Pelletier. The Flames head coach doesn’t give two sh*t’s about him. Couldn’t care less. Pelletier was making his Flames debut tonight in the eventual 6-3 win for Calgary over Tampa Bay. When asked about Pelletier, Sutter’s response was truly unbelievable. It’s hard to fathom that an NHL head coach responded to a question this way, but that’s who Sutter is. Quote machine every night baby!
It’s safe to say Sutter didn’t like TSN’s Salim Valji’s question:
“Jakob Pelletier, what number is he?” Sutter remarked. “49 … six minutes, 35 seconds. 13 shifts. Averaged 37 seconds a shift. Got 43 seconds on the power play, played 5 minutes and 52 seconds [at even strength]. Had one shot on goal and one hit.
“It’s the NHL. 21 years old. He’s got a long way to go.”
With Pelletier on the ice during 5-on-5 play, the Flames outshot the Lightning 5–1 and controlled 90.04 percent of the expected goals. Not bad! Not sure Darryl is an analytics guy, however, so we’ll keep it moving.
I think the funniest part of this is the fact that Pelletier is the Flames first round pick from the 2019 NHL Draft. In theory, this should be a prospect to pay attention to. Especially given the fact that it was his debut. Sutter gives zero sh*t’s.
Speaking of poo, Sutter had a classic quote earlier this season about Jonathan Huberdeau taking care of his business. The NHL is just the best. Say whatever you want about Sutter. The man is a quote machine every single night.
